Justice Department Reveals Settlement With Spokane Public Schools for ‘Improper’ Privacy, Restraint of Trainees With Disabilities

The Department of Justice revealed a settlement contract with Spokane public schools in Washington state today to attend to the inequitable usage of privacy and restraint versus trainees with impairments, according to a news release

The contract will deal with the department’s examination of the schools under Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act. The examination discovered that the school district wrongly and consistently remote and restrained trainees with impairments and did not restrict the practice to emergency situation scenarios, as needed by state law and district policy.
